A short history

The railway reached Elmers End in 1864, and the branch to Hayes followed in 1882. At the time this was still a rural area of scattered farmhouses and hamlets; by the First World War it had almost become part of Beckenham. Trams arrived in May 2000, making the station an interchange.

The homes

A mix of Victorian and Edwardian terraces, interwar semis and more recent flats and developments. Good transport and slightly lower prices than central Beckenham make it popular with first-time buyers and investors.

Getting about

Elmers End station, in fare zone 4, is on the Mid Kent and Hayes lines, with frequent trains to London Charing Cross and to Hayes. It is also a tram terminus, with trams around every 10 minutes to East Croydon and Wimbledon.

For landlords

Easy transport and a good supply of flats and smaller houses make Elmers End a solid rental area. If you're letting here, the new rental rules are worth understanding; our letting page sets them out plainly.

If you're selling in Elmers End

Buyers here compare carefully, and they know what nearby homes have sold for. A realistic price, good photographs and proper preparation (paperwork, certificates and a clear story about the home) make the difference between a quick sale and a stale one. If you're on one of these roads and want a clear, honest answer, book a free market appraisal, or see if we already have a buyer waiting.
